Denham 1st XI V Holyport 1st XI Saturday 29nd May Captain Dave Maynard's Report
This report feels exactly the same as that for the last 2 games. It feels like groundhog day. Denham won the toss and inserted Holyport to bat. They went on to score 253 for 2 of 43.5 overs. Again the fielding let us down with six droppd catches (including one from the captain). In response, Denham started of well with James Nicholas (36) and Colin Tobin (22) putting on 50 for the first wicket. Then Denham had one of their famous collapses and we finished up 138 for 7, with Dave Hales (35 not out) and Jamil (not out 6) defending the draw for the last 20 overs. Holyport 2nd XI V Denham 2nd XI Saturday 29th May Captain Jeff Simpson's Report
Yesterday was a bit of a disappointment. It started with me losing the toss, us being inserted and getting off to a very slow start whilst losing a steady flow of wickets. Opening batsman Mark Dalton continued his poor early season form with a second consecutive nought & only Bobby Rai (16) offered any resistance to the opening attack. Andy Leach top scored again with 49 but found the accuracy of Richard Dean's bowling too much to cope with & was sent back to the clubhouse with some help from the umpire....L.B.W. But on this occasion, the 170-9 off 52 overs was to prove a to small a target for Holyport's batsmen. An early breakthrough for Faisal only brought a fired up Richard Dean to the wicket & with two previous noughts to his name this season did not plan to hang about today. Akhil - now running an extra 22 yards to see the batsmen after every ball for a chat - found this policy was not working as he could only ask "Where's the ball gne? " as it was dispatched to the boundary. Holyport found themselves well ahead of the run rate & although they lost 6 wickets they were never in any danger of failing to achieve their target with plenty of overs to spare. Denham must now concentrate on building opening partnerships & getting on top of the opening attack when batting. With the bowlers giving away 45 extras, we can never expect to win games when bowling so poorly. One positive out of the day though was the bowling of Simon Johnson who took 3-13 off 5 overs, but he may need to give up smoking to achieve six overs as beetroot head took on another new expression. Onwards & upwards next week |
