Captain Dave Maynard's Report

We had a draw within our hands, but crumbled away to defeat.

Denham won the toss and inserted Great Kingshill. We managed to restrict them to 72 from the first 20 overs on a beautiful batting track, with Jack Grover making the breakthrough for the first wicket and Phil Dickson keping them quiet at the other end.

But he next pair of batsmen enjoyed a 195 run partnership, with both batsmen going on to make centuries. The home side went on to knock up 278 for 3 off 49 overs.

Denham made an excellent start with Dave Maynard taking the attack to the Great Kingshill bowlers, scoring an excellent 72 within 21 overs. There were also good contributions from Paul Hazell (47) and Stuart Payne (31) and then disaster struck.

Both Paul and Stuart got out one after the other, just when we thought they would see out the draw. A batting collapse followed and we were enventually bowled out for 174.

Summary

Another splendid win for Denham 2nd XI.

Andy Leach - the Flaxen-Haired Stallion - flayed the ball to all parts of the ground (121 not out) to help Denham to the formidable total of 261/6 off 38 overs.

Wargave were never in the hunt and sank without trace for 126 all out.
