Denham 1st XI V Englefield 1st XI Saturday 15th May Captain Dave Maynard's Report
An interesting day's cricket with Denham winning the toss and inserting the opposition, who then accumulated the massive score of 331-9 of 51.5 overs with the ball going to all parts of the ground - except the fielders hands! The notable performances for the Denham bowlers were Joe O'Hara 3-19 and James Nicholas 3-46. Denham were left to chase this huge total in 48 overs and replied with a total of 189-3. Paul Hazell got an excellent 102 not out, well supported by Flash Tobin, 54, with the pair putting together a 150 run partnership and Stuart.Payne coming in at the death to see out the draw. Englefield 2nd XI V Denham 2nd XI Saturday 15th May Captain Jeff Simpson's Report
We got our League programme off to an winning start on Saturdayoff to a start. I won the toss & inserted Englefield. They struggled in the early overs against Faisal & Akhil, only scoring 24/1 in the first 12, with Faisal getting the breakthrough. Then came the captain's moment of inspiration (he says modestly), bringing on Denham's answer to Ian Botham, Andy Leach 'The Flaxen-Haired Stallion'. Leachy ripped into the top half of Englefield's batting, taking 4/11 in his first 5 overs. Englefield finished their innings with 151 all out, with Faisal & Leachy cleaning up the tail! Denham Bowling Faisal 11.1.43.3 Akhil 10.0.37.0 Simpson 6.3.10.1 Leach 11.3 2.23.5 S Johnson 5.0.26.1
The Denham Reply We never looked in any trouble & although we lost a early wicket (Chris Ambler bowled Ali for 2), Mark Dalton & Faisal produced a fifty partnership before Dalts was fooled by a straight one (bowled for 35). Leachy & J. Kay both had brief visits to the wicket before young Omar blasted a quick 30 not out to win the game, with Faisal finishing up with 43 not out.
Conclusion It was a great start to the season, with Denham picking up 20 points after two weeks of disappointment due to adverse weather conditions. |
