Captain Dave Maynard's Report

A disastrous week of player unavailability meant we had to steal a number of players from the 2nd XI.

Denham won the their 4th consecutive toss on a very green wicket and inserted Braywood. We were soon reaping the benefits with Jack Grover ripping out the Braywood top order with 4 wickets leaving the opposition 41-4.

He was well supported by Faisal, who constantly beat the bat without any success early on, but reaped good rewards later on, and by Phil Dickson who took some vital middle and late order wickets.

We managed to bowl out Braywood for 134. Jack Grover got 4-37, Faisal 3-59 and Phil Dixon 3-34. Mention must be made of an excellent performance by Peter Schembri behind the stumps, conceding no byes.

Denham got of to a bad start, losing Stuart Payne for 0 in the first over. Then Colin Tobin and Dave Maynard steadied the ship with 28 for the next wicket, before Tobin was out lbw for 15 and Maynard was out shortly afterwards for 12 leaving Denham 32-3.

It all fell apart after that and we were then eventually bowled out for 53.

Was today an awful performance, going down by 81 runs? No- today was our best performance of the season, because we competed strongly with the opposition for most of the match despite only having 10 men.

For the club to achieve good results regularly we need to have more commitment from the players, because both the 1st and 2nd XIs would have won their games if we had better availability and hadn't had to to field two sides with 10 men plus 2 colts under 15 years of age,

Captain Jeff Simpson's Report

Summary: Player shortages meant that many former 2nd XI players had to go off and do duties with the 1st XI.

A weakened 2nd XI tried their best but were overcome by Braywood 2nd XI.

Denham batted first and had scored a reasonable 187 by the time they were all out in the 532nd over, courtesy of an excellent 77 from Mark Dalton.

Braywood struggled in reply but eventually prevailed by 4 wickets

Result: Denham 187 all out, Braywood 188/7
