Denham 1st XI V Little Kingshill 1st XI Saturday 3rd July Captain Dave Maynard's Report Denham won the toss on drying wicket and put Little Kingshill into bat. The vistors were soon off to a flyer at 58 for no loss when Jack Grover removed the 2 openers. Little Kingshill created another partnership and to take them to 136-3 when Denham hit back with James Nicholas taking 4 quick wickets leaving the opposition reeling at 158-8. It just seem at matter time before Denham bowled them out but Little Kingshill created a 100 run partnership to take them to 263 before being bowled out. Denham started off slowly on a wicket now favouring the bowlers and were 56-2 off 21 overs (C.Tobin 20 and J Nicholas 17). In came Paul Hazell who scored an excellent 104 including 29 off one over. He was supported well by Faisal Mahmood 34, and Joe O'Hara, who contributed a fine 34. Denham now needed 49 runs of 5 overs with Stuart.Payne and Jamil Shiakh at the crease. They kept up the run rate with some excellent 6’s and 4’s from both players. This took us into the last over with 10 runs needed. They managed to get 5 runs of the first 5 balls, so Jamil Shiakh was facing the last ball with a six needed to win. The opposition were confident that they would win, but Jamil Shiak had other ideas. He smacked the last ball over point boundary for 6 giving Denham a truly great victory and the other Denham players ran on the pitch to celebrate. (Jamil Shiak 27*, S.Payne 24*). Little Kingshill 2nd XI V Denham 2nd XI Saturday 3rd July
They made 256/7 off 51.5 overs - a formidable total. Due to the good efforts of Mark Dalton (an excellent 76), Jaykay (a fine 42) and Dave Tang (30+, adding to a spectacular catch earlier on) we got very, very close. We needed 7 off the last over, but we were nine wickets down so we also had to be careful. It came down to 4 wanted off the last ball and we finished 3 short at 253/9. Points: Little Kingshill 14, Denham 8
