Littlewick Green V Denham 1st XI Saturday 7th August Bowery Boy
Russell Bowry scoring a 4 off his legs on the way to 111 not out Captain Dave Maynard's Report Denham won the toss again on a glorious sunny day and beautiful batting track and put Littlewick Green into bat. Denham struck straight away with Jack Grover taking a wicket with his first delivery, but unfortunately we were unable to build on this. A host of catches were dropped (including the skipper himself, dare we say). Littlewick Green eventually scored 269-5 off their full 52 overs. All the Denham bowlers performed well with J.Shiak (3-56 off 12 overs) the pick of them. C.Tobin and B.Rai began Denham's run chase. They were going well when Tobin was dismissed for 13 with the score 26. In came the skipper who hit a quick 16 before playing on, then came the partnership of the match with Bobby Rai (picture)and Russell Bowry (bigger picture) putting on 186 for the third wicket. Bobby Rai was eventually dismissed for an excellent 76, with the score 232. Denham needed 37 off the last 6 overs. Mahmood,O’Hara and Shiakh all fell quickly. It was left to Stuart Payne and Russell Bowry to finish the game off with 2 balls to go, with Bowry finishing the game on an excellent 111 not out. A great victory for Denham, building on the spirit of recent weeks. 1st XI Scorecard Littlewick Green Innings Denham Bowling |

V Chenies & Latimer High Drama Sunday 8th August Denham won the toss on hot sunny day and elected to bat. They were soon in trouble, losing Jamil Shiakh in the first over. In came Dave Maynard, who scored a quick 31 and put on 75 for the 2nd wicket with James Nicholas - out shortly afterwards for 28. Denham then dribbled away more wickets; their chance of making a decent score had surely gone. When the going gets tough, the tough get going! The stage was set for one of those knocks from Stuart Payne. He knocked up a lusty 67and put on 86 for the sixth wicket with debutant Sachin (26), enabling Denham to reach a score of 214 off their 40 overs. Chenies and Latimer created a couple of lasting partnerships and always seemed to be in control of their chase. Then there was a glimmer of hope. Harish Bhatt and James Nicholas took quick wickets, then skipper Richie Brathwaite and Jamil Shiakh got into the act. With two overs to go, Chenies and Latimer needed 14 to win with 9 wickets down. One of the final pair skied a ball into the gloom but last week's hero Faisal Mahmood was unable to hold onto it and Chenies Latimer went on to win the game in the last over. |
