Denham V Cookham Dean Saturday 28th August All Round Team Spirit
(Nicholas Street in the Bowery) Captain Dave Maynard's Report 10-man Denham lost the toss on a damp wicket and were inserted, but Colin Tobin (38) and James Nicholas (33) put on a very creditable 66 for the first wicket in difficult conditions, before Nicholas fell. In came Bobby Rai who played some nice shots for his 24 before running Tobin out for 38 and getting himself out the next over. This left Russell Bowry and Faisal Mahmood at the crease and they managed to put on 53 for the next wicket before Mahmood was bowled for 15. Skipper Dave Maynard then created another partnership of 46 with Bowry before he perished for 20. Joe O’Hara - who hit an excellent 19 with one huge six - and Bowry managed to move the score on to 224 before Bowry was out for an excellent 59. Denham then lost three wickets in the last over to finish on that same 224 score. The Denham bowlers started off with great determination: Faisal Mahmood took 2 wickets in 2 overs (leaving the opposition stunned at 3-2). The opposition made something of a comeback, putting on 31 for the next wicket, before Mahmood struck again, with Joe O’Hara taking the catch of the season at long on to dismiss Patel, one of their more dangerous batsmen. Dave Hales then got into the act and took a wicket. On came James Nicholas to bowl. He managed to 2 quick wickets and, with Mahmood taking another one, the opposition were reeling at 70-7. James Nicholas then swept through the last 3 wickets to give himself 5-27 off 8.4 overs and to take the 1st XI bowling award as well. Faisal Mahmood, 4-35 off 14 overs was also brilliant today, backed up with some excellent fielding from Joe O’Hara (2 catches) and Colin Tobin (3 catches), while young Gerald O’Hara fielded well on his 1st team debut. An excellent victory for Denham. Result: Denham 30 pts Cookham Dean 6pts 1st XI Scorecard Denham Innings Cookham Dean Bowling Cookham Dean Innings Denham Bowling |
Cookham Dean V Denham 2nd XI Saturday 28th August They Shall Not Pass! Denham lost the toss and the opposition decided to bat - a decision they later regretted. Denham bowled well and had them in virtually gone at 110/8, but a strong last-wicket partnership brought them to the respectable total of 204. Phil Dickson bowled particularly well for his 3/30 of the full 15 overs. Denham's batsmen just did and Jack Grover and Phil Adshworth had to bat out the last 6 overs for Denham to claim the draw, with us 110/9 at stumps. Denham 6 points, Cookham Dean 16 points. |
