Denham V Great Kingshill 1st XI Saturday 14th August Nicholas Ton...
Captain Dave Maynard's Report Denham elected to field first against Great Kingshill and soon tasted success, with James Nicholas and Jamil Shiakh taking some early wickets. In fact we had the opposition in big trouble at 128-6. Great Kingshill fought back and managed to make 282-8 off their full 52, overs with Jamil Shiakh the pick of our bowlers, taking 4-78, although James Nicholas (2-38 off 10) and Joe O'Hara (1-45 off 11) both bowled tidy spells. Denham started off slowly in losing Bobby Rai for 1. Paul Hazell and James Nicholas then put on 179 for the 2nd wicket when Paul Hazell was out for an excellent 76. Russell Bowry came in and kept the momentum going with a good 20, then we lost James Nicholas for a superb 106 (his maiden ton in the league). Wickets began to tumble quickly with Bowry (20),O’Hara (7) and Shiakh (2), leaving Denham needing 33 of the last 3 overs. Dave Maynard and D.Dosser were now at the crease. They managed to bring it down to 16 needed off the last over. Skipper Maynard, in a desperate search for the win, ran out Dosser (7), then Stuart Payne (0), while Richie Braithwaite was out lbw for a first ball 0. In came last man Jack Grover to bat out the last 2 balls to save the game, with Denham 270-9 and Dave Maynard unbeaten on 28. Another fighting Denham performance. V Ley Hill XI Nicholas Ton - Again Sunday 15th August
Ambrose edging the ball through the slips, while James looks mildly interested at the other end Ley Hill won the toss and elected to bat and had a fine start in putting on 92 for the first wicket then the Denham bowlers hit back, with Joe O’Hara taking 2 wickets and brother Gerald O’Hara 1 wicket, while Harish Bhatt also chipped in with one. We eventually restricted the opposition to 159-4 off their 40 overs. For Denham, James Nicholas and Steve Bull put on 59 for the first wicket when Bull was out for 3 (which shows just what good form James was in). Quick wickets fell with Bareham (0) and J.O’Hara (1). In came Ambrose Treacy to steady the ship with 18, then Dave Maynard - carrying on his weekend's form - came in at the end with 30 not out. This took us to victory and also enabled run-machine James Nicholas to reach his second ton in 2 days (103 not out). |
