Hail Captain Nicholas!
James Nicholas's Report Coleshill were relegated to division 2 as they were beaten by 6 wickets by Denham who moved up to 4th in the League. Coleshill opted to bat, but Mahmood soon dismissed the dangerous Spencer with a fine lifting delivery. However the other Denham bowlers found it hard bowling into the wind and were relatively ineffective from the other end. Once they changed ends though, things changed. Both Nicholas and O'Hara took wickets with the first balls of their spells and Nicholas then went through the rest of the Coleshill side to finish with 6-28. The Coleshill captain Stay was the only batsman to offer any real resistance with 59 as the home side were dismissed for 148. Denham scored slowly but steadily in reply and reached their target for the loss of 4 wickets, thanks mainly to a gritty 53 from opener Tobin, 28 from Khan and 24 not out from Nicholas. Denham could end the season in 3rd spot if they can beat Taplow next week while Penn thrash Holyport. |
The Ambrose, JK and Jack Show Coleshill turned up at Denham on Saturday, after scratching a number of matches: Denham Twos would have to earn their points - but earn them they did. Despite Ambrose Treacy's 60 and JK's 42, the rest of the the Twos had an off day with the bat and Denham were dismissed for only 195. Coleshill however had no match to the pace and guile of Jack Grover (5/53), and crumbled away to 129 all out, giving the Twos victory by 66 runs - and 29 points to Coleshill's 7. Unfortunately Denham still remain in 8th place, 12 points behind White Waltham and Hurley, but a 30-pointer against Amersham Hill next week might advance them by a place or so. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- After The Lord Mayor's Show Alan Coulson 's Report A poor performance overall by Denham Sunday XI bowlers and fielders allowed Odney to reach a daunting score of 263 for 7 after their 40 overs. Exceptions to this display of underachievement were Bobby Rai with 2 for 24 from his 8 overs and Harish Bhatt with 4 for 49. Joe O'Hara fielded with his usual athleticism and Dave Maynard held a difficult catch. Denham's initial reply was excellent, with openers Akhil Sabherwal and Bobby Rai responding to a serious discussion about tactics over tea by scoring 98 before the first wicket fell in only 16 overs. Once Akhil was out for 50 however, the malaise returned with no other batsman reaching double figures. Bobby top-scored with 54, Denham finished on 150 all out and lost by 113 runs! |
