Sunday XI: Oh So Close
Alan Coulson's Report Denham lost narrowly to Pinner. Skipper Joe O'Hara won the toss and condemned Pinner to field first on a typically scorching August afternoon. James Nicholas and Russell Bowry made steady progress against tight bowling with an opening stand of 60 before Russell was caught for 27. Subsequent batsmen fell short of the task with several cheap dismissals as James battled on to reach 69 before being caught. Fortunately a whirlwind 30 not out by Faisal Mahmood during the last few overs gave Denham hope as they posted a final score of 186 for 9. After the usual sumptuous tea, courtesy of Yvette, Denham bowlers were sluggish as Pinner batsmen scored quite freely. The fast outfield seemed to over-compensate for the indifferent bouince of the wicket. Faisal Mahmood bowled a steady spell of 8 overs 1 for 25. James Nicholas and Harish Bhatt each took two wickets and Russell Bowry with his late reverse swing grabbed wickets with the first ball of his two spells. However, Pinner managed to reach their target with 23 balls to spare and eight wickets down. League Tables, 4/9/05 | 1st Team Averages 21/08/05 | Sunday averages (2/09/05) |
