THROUGH THE SOUTH WEST TO TRURO

Over the last 8 days the walk has progressed rather rapidly, now standing at 1031 miles long.

The lack of long-distance paths has meant much of the walking has been along country lanes, which like everything else is both good and bad. The firm ground enables swift progress but the hedges rather obscure the countryside views.

If I had walked along the coast then this would have been avoided, but there would also have been the increased temptation to jump into the ocean and end-it-all.

Anyway, am now in Truro, having walked through uneventful places such as Tiverton, Okehampton, Launceston, Bodmin and then regrettably, Newquay.

The highlight of this stretch was certainly crossing Bodmin Moor.

Although I did not see any beasts, I did climb Brown Willy, and whilst not an expert on these matters it was definitely the biggest one I've ever seen.

There has been little else of interest on this stretch, and it has mainly been an exercise in backing-oneself.

There are now only 45 miles to walk till Land's End and I've just remembered that not everything is both good and bad because there is nothing good about Newquay town centre, which along with the entire Midlands, is a nasty hell-hole full of wretched people that would be better off not existing.
