The Existential Crusade:

Russell Bowry Does John O'Groats to Land's End

Nov 10th 2006

Episode Eight : Almost There

South West Coastal Path

St Michael's Mount

Almost there (1066 miles)

After safely completing another 2 days walking to reach Penzance there are now only 10 miles to go to reach Land's End.

Today's walk was particularly nice. There was a delightful stretch along the South West Coastal Path between Porthleven and Penzance which involved walking along the cliff tops without jumping off, and then along the beach where I got my feet wet because I was trying to see how cold the water was.

Out at sea there was this cool church-land-mass-type-thing called St Michaels' Mount and the bad weather didn't spoil my day but rather complimented the mood I woke up in, which was angry and filled with hate and a desire to be alone.

So what awaits at Land's End?

Loads of birds who have heard about the walk and want to greet their hero and I get to choose which one(s) I want?

Bill Nicholas with pound signs in his eyes and kerching sounds in his ears and no rain to get his tank-top wet?

Perhaps I won't get there. Or I will but when it again dawns on me that in general life is insufferably boring and utterly pointless, and that this walk has been a fortunate exception, I will carry on walking off Dr Johnson's Head and plunge to a premature but well-deserved end-to-it-all.

So what's it going to be then, eh?
