Both Teams Still Undefeated

Ist XI: Rolling On Denham, on a roll after achieving an amazing victory last week against Little Kingshill, now entertained Braywood. James Nicholas won an important toss on a intriguing wicket and opted to put Braywood into bat. They got of to a steady start with a 41 run partnership before Faisal Mahmood removed Carter 37 LBW. Then Denham began to put the pressure on with Gurp Gharkal taking 3 wickets which he would admit weren’t his best deliveries all day. He was well supported by Usman Khan who produced an excellent spell bowling and picking up for 2-23. With Jamil Shaikh wrapping up the tail with 3-21, Braywood were eventually bowled out for 121. Denham began the run chase with Colin Tobin and Usman Khan, but Colin Tobin was soon back in the changing rooms for 1 and Skipper James Nicholas came in hoping to steady the nerves but he perished for 3 leaving us 17-2. Paul Hazell entered the crease with Usman and they put on 34 with some some of excellent display of shots from both batsmen before Usman was out for an excellent 27. In came Russell Bowry who decided to take the attack to Braywood bowlers in scoring an excellent 38 which included 5 boundaries. This put us in a winning position. Shortly afterwards both Bowry (38) and Hazell (27) departed leaving Lee Webber 6 not out and Dave Maynard 4 not out to knock off the last 15 runs to give us our second league win of the season. After last weeks 25 point walkover against Little Kingshill, Saturday was the first action under fire. Winning the toss, and asking Braywood to bat we got off to agreat start, Dave Tang taking a fine catch to remover one opener. We then struggled to break the next two partnerships and Braywood built up a good total on a slow pitch. This year the fines committee will be in operation, and the first fines are owed by C. Ambler, who shelled the top scorer off a skier, and the skipper, yours truly, who shelled their skipper off a dolly. Two contributions of 50p for the end of season curry please. (Dave Tang joins the list with £1.00 for a duck.) Our effort started with Bobby Rai back the hutch quickly, then Curtley (Ambrose) and Dalts saw us through the half century before wickets began to fall. Ambrose, having charged a full toss, missing, and being culpably stumped, explained his dismissal for our top score, as being necessary due to the slow run rate, 74 off 16 overs, a rate which would have enabled us to chase in excess of 220 easily. £1.00 fine for the worst excuse of the season so far. Wickets continued to fall, until the final rearguard of Akhill, 'I'll put a 6 foot stride in and block everything', and Phil the Slayer propping forward when necessary, to secure a tense draw.
