Three Down

League 31st May:

On Saturday May 31st Denham lost both League fixtures with Great Kingshill.

Swept Aside...

The 1st XI made 175 off 47 overs, with good performances from Flash (47) and a quickfire 21 from Jeff Simpson.

Great Kingshill swept to 175/1 in just 27 overs. The Denham attack was described as 'toothless', or in the injured Jeff Simpson's case, 'toeless'.

Skipper Payne commented "Talk about last week being like The Alamo, this was like Custer's bloody Last Stand".

Just Short

The 2nd XI lost a tense and competitive match with Great Kingshill 2nds by just one wicket.

Denham reached 174/9 - just a run short of an extra batting point. No one dominated but a number of players made useful contributions: Alan Coulson (31), newcomer Akhil (23), Dave Matthews (22), Andy Leach a rapid 17.

Phil Ashworth produced an excellent opening spell (2/40 off 15), while fierce bowling by debutante Akhil earned him 5 wickets. One of his victims came as a result of a stunning leaping boundary catch by Andy Leach.

It looked all over for Great Kingshill when their ninth wicket went down with 28 wanted, but they somehow managed to drag themselves over the finish line.

Professionally Despatched

The Sunday XI entertained old rivals Ruislip Victoria but were bested by the visitors in all three departments.

After the promising Akhil was run out by a brilliant direct hit from Colin Phillips, the Denham innings never really got going, with wickets tumbling regularly. Stuart Payne (20) stood firm at one end for a long time, but no one could break free of the vice-like grip imposed by the visitors' attack (notably Ajay, Cooper P and C, and Merrison) and some sharp fielding. It was left to the enterprising Phil Ashworth (28 not out) to bring some respectability to the total (133/6 off 40 overs).

Richie Brathwaite (1/16 off 6) and Andy Leach (0/12 off 5) had excellent opening spells as they did last week, but Ruislip Victoria's Bailey (63 not out) and the dangerous Shaad (37 not out) simply tore into all the other bowlers, bringing the visitors home by 9 wickets.
