Sunday XI Versus Ruislip Victoria:
Sunday 28st May
DENHAM VICTORIOUS AGAINST RUISLIP VICTORIA
Denham were asked to bat on a damp, slow wicket and for a while openers Bobby Rai and Faisal Mahmood found it difficult to score with the ball not coming onto the bat and a wet, grassy outfield. However, showing good concentration, the pair began to accelerate and, despite the odd mix-up in calling, put on 140 runs with Faisal scoring 70 and Bobby 67.
With other batsmen like Joe O'Hara (24) and Russell Bowry (17) adding useful runs, Denham reached 222 for 8 after their 40 overs.
Having been refuelled by another excellent tea from Amy, the bowlers and fielders set about their task with relish. Jamil Shaikh bowled another excellent, miserly spell of 8 overs 1 for 5, while Gerald O'Hara opened at the other end with 3 for 41, aided by sharp catches taken by Russell, Bobby and Faisal.
Harish Bhatt and Hemen Mehta provided tricky spin to take two wickets each and Ruislip Victoria were doomed at 80 for 9. However, it took another 30 minutes to remove the last pair, due to one dropped catch (sorry Faisal) and two missed stumpings (that's me). Ruislip Victoria finished on 125, giving Denham a win by 97 runs.
