COOKHAM CREAMED

THE LEAGUE KNOCKOUT 23/MAY/2005

Flooded Cookham, with Uzman Khan's car walking on water.

The team arrived at Cookham Dean in perfect convoy order, but had the bad news that there would be no tea, and more importantly no Harish on this occasion.

However, despite this setback, Nicholas won the toss and inserted the opposition who proceeded to make a mere 100 runs off 15 8-ball overs.

The pick of the bowlers was Faisal Mahmood. His excellent accuracy and bounce gave him figures of 4-12 off 4 overs, which is fantastic given that one would expect much slogging in this type of cricket.

Other bowlers worthy of note were Uzman Khan (4-23-2), and James Nicholas (4-22-3), and particular attention must go to Dave Maynard who took 3 sharp catches and made a run-out. Great stuff.

There was no tea and therefore the run chase was unenthusiastic. 3 cheap wickets were lost during an innings that tested Uzman Khan's fitness to the limits. Towards the end his mind was firmly on six hitting (presumably to avoid running) and the monomaniac did not disappoint. A sublime six was launched over extra cover to bring up his half-century, and win the game for Denham.

Only O'Hara offered support with a calm 18 not out.

It was a good team display but Denham will need to play better against Chalfont St Giles in the next round.

Finally, a mention to Peter Schembri, whose altruism was once again invaluable. Standing in the bitterly cold wind to umpire for 28 overs was a great effort.
