Binfield 1st XI v Denham 1st XI

May 13th 2006

'Usman Khanage'

Second Week, By Public Demand

(But don't forget Ton-Man Russell)

By Skipper James Nicholas

Denham travelled to Wraysbury and on winning the toss elected to field.

Tidy spells from Joe O'Hara 2-68 from 15 overs and captain James Nicholas 2-48 from 13, helped restrain Wraysbury's strong late order hitting and restrict them to 251/7.

In reply Denham lost both openers early and looked in trouble. However Russell Bowry (106 n.o) and Usman Khan (130 n.o) were in awesome form and quickly set about dispatching the Wraysbury bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Khan was first to his hundred, a repeat of last week's effort, closely followed by Bowry. They cruised past the winning mark with more than 10 overs to spare with a fantastic undefeated partnership of 238, giving Denham victory by 8 wickets.

Denham 2nd XI v Hurley

May 13th 2006

So Close

The 2nds first home fixture of the season. Unfortunately the 50p came down heads again and Denham were asked to bat first. The pitch looked remarkably good for an early season Denham strip, possibly justifying the close season investment in the square. Time would tell.

Openers Ambler (32) and Simpson (30) got the innings off to a very tidy and prompt start with 50 coming up in the 11th over. Both openers perished within a few overs leaving new batsmen Dalton (67*) and Treacy (76) at the crease. An excellent 126 run partnership ensued. Both batsmen played themselves in and then capitalised on tiring Hurley bowling with Treacy particularly savage on anything loose.

JK (25*) again added some entertaining end of inning impetus to allow a declaration in the 49th over at 252 for 3.

The Hurley reply got off to a flyer. 50 up in the 9th over and 70 by the 11th. This was due primarily to some strong hitting by Hurley batsman Nandwani (36).

Fortunately the opening bowlers Treacy (3 for 27) and Akhil (2 for 62) came to the party to snuff out the Hurley top order and reduce them to 77 for 5. Some obdurate batting from the Hurley lower order made further wickets hard to come by. A rain delay didn't assist our cause and the game subsided to a draw with Hurley finishing on 164 for 9 from their allocated 48 overs.

Excellent 2nd XI bowling debuts from Vic (2 for 16) and Grant (2 for 23) deserve a special mention and brought us to the brink of winning the game.

A good game for Denham both batting and bowling which bar the late rain almost brought our first victory of this year's campaign.

Champagne moment: A stunning, low catch at gully by Atwal to remove the dangerous Hurley captain Steve Taylor (16) just when we needed a break through.

Denham 16 pts, Hurley 4 pts

Next game: Away at Amersham Hill

Sunday XI Versus Uxbridge 2nd XI:

Sunday 14th May

Bobby Dazzler

The Sunday side completed a good weekend for Denham.

On the customary cool, cloudy Sunday afternoon, Denham set about the visiting Uxbridge side by asking them to bat. Their progress was slow, especially from the bowling of Jamil Shaikh (5 overs for 7 runs). All of the Uxbridge batsmen found scoring difficult as the bowlers stayed on top, led by Phil Ashworth with 4 wickets for 26 and aided by Andy Grant (2 wickets), Russell Bowry ( 1 wicket) and Hemen Mehta (1 wicket).

After their 40 overs, Uxbridge had scored 155 for 8 on a slow wicket, giving Denham a scent of victory.

The reply was led by Bobby Rai and Richie ("I'm never going to bowl again" ) Braithwaite. Bobby led a charmed life as he built his innings, due to poor catching from Uxbridge. He laid the foundation for victory with 75 runs, yet managed to run out our new recruit Premel Mehta, who showed promise during his stay at the crease. Saturday hero Russell Bowry could not repeat his superb performance and was out second ball, so it was left to Joe O'Hara to score a rapid 36 not out to win the game with two consecutive sixes. Denham scored 157 for5 in 33 overs.

NB Just a reminder that annual subs are due. Please bring them next week.
