Holyport 1st XI v Denham 1st XI
June 17th 2006
James Nicholas's Report
More Khanage!

Lethal & Khanage
Denham travelled to bottom of the table Holyport and were asked to bowl first on a pitch which gave some assistance to the seamers early on. With two wickets in his first over Faisal Mahmood (3-45) took full advantage, supported by James Nicholas (2-29).
A good seventh wicket partnership from Davies (32) and Homer (57) kept Holyport in the game, but when Joe O'Hara dismissed both batsmen with consecutive balls Holyport soon folded for 191 all out, O'hara finishing with 4-32.
Colin Tobin (13) and Nicholas (27) got Denham off to a good start with 45 coming from the first 10 overs. However both were then out in quick succession.
Usman Khan (the mighty one) came to the crease and quickly set about hitting the Holyport bowlers to all parts of the ground. Supported by Russell Bowry (26 n.o) he reached his third century of the season to finish on 108 n.o and take Denham to a comfortable 8 wicket victory.
Denham join Chalfont St Giles at the top of the table, however the later have a game in hand.
Points: us 30, Holyport 5

Skipper Mark Dalton's Report
Dalton lost the toss and chose to field (what ? it was 29 degrees out there).
Unfortunately we bowled poorly (with the exceptions of Akhil and Channi), toiled hard but Holyport ran amok and declared on 281 for 5 from 47 overs. Holyport skipper Osinski played exceptionally well for an unbeaten 164.
In reply Denham started brightly and reached 83 for 1 but from there it went rapidly downhill and we succumbed to 142 all out off 41 overs. Only Simpson (44) played with the necessary application and concentration required to keep Holyport at bay.
A tough day at the office for Denham and one in which there were no outstanding champagne moments.
Maybe I should've batted.....(skip)

Sunday 18th June
DENHAM LOSE THEIR WAY IN RUN CHASE
Denham lost their latest Sunday game to Woodley, despite having initially used their strong bowling attack sensibly.
Opening bowlers Phil Dickson and Jack Grover began well reducing the visitors to 29 for 4. However, the support bowlers proved less effective on a wicket which, because of its uneven bounce, gave help to the bowlers all afternoon.
The Woodley middle order took a number of well-run singles and a fair number of boundaries as they progressed at one time to 180 for 5. Fortunately when the opening bowlers returned, success followed with Jack recording figures of 7 overs 2 for 26, and Phil a magnificent 7.1 overs 7 for 18. Woodley were bowled out for 187.
Magic Moment! Jack bowls a long hop outside leg stump. Batsman mishooks to Phil who drops catch. Phil attempts a run out at the bowler's end but misses the wicket allowing an overthrow. Joe O'Hara fields the ball and hurls it, whereupon it hits Jack in mid pitch, as he still hasn't got behind the stumps. The ball cannons off Jack's ankle for Richie to gather finally!
Denham knew that they had a difficult task because of the uneven bounce and so it proved . They were never up with the run rate and lost wickets steadily. The only stand of merit was between Hemen Mehta and Richie Braithwaite. It was worth 46 with Hemen scoring 28. Denham subsided to 134 all out, so lost by 53 runs.
Positive Point! Most, but not all, players arrived early to help with the jobs and helped at the end with clearing up. To them, I am grateful.
