Winchmore Hill 1st XI v Denham 1st XI
July 19th 2008
The Search for the Missing Batsmen Goes on
Denham had no answer to Winchmore Hill's Clarke (6/31) and perished for 128.
We had them three down quite early on, but the fourth wicket stand proved to be the winning partnership.
Denham 3 pts Winchmore Hill 20 pts
Denham are second bottom, just 2 points ahead of Holyport, while Taplow, Wraysbury and Winchmore Hill contest the top three spots.
Next week home to Englefield.
Denham 2nd XI v Hawridge & Cholesbury 2nd XI
July 19th 2008
The Philth Filthy
Denham knocked up a creditable 215/9, with JK Bhagodia the man in form (89), but the stage was set for a super performance from The Philth: he picked up a incredible 8 for 24 - surely the best bowling for the season for either Denham side - as visitors Hawridge & Cholesbury were dismissed for a paltry 126.
Denham 30 pts Hawridge & Cholesbury 6 pts
Little Marlow hung on for a losing draw, as did leaders Braywood, so no change at the top. Denham are now equal fifth with White Waltham behind Coleshill and Wargrave.
Next game: away at Englefield.
Revenge for the Oil Men
James Nicholas's Report
O’Hara Oils made their second and now almost certainly annual appearance at the Way and Tillard on Sunday. A large crowd were on hand to see if the motley crew that Joe O’Hara had assembled were able to turn over the might of the Denham Sunday side.
Denham batted first and soon lost Sabherwal to an inswinger from Clint O’Hara. Nicholas (15) didn’t hang around too much longer either, caught at point after driving loosely at an innocuous Joe O’Hara delivery. It was left to captain Bobby Rai and Dave Maynard to rebuild the innings. This they did with Bobby making a solid 39 before he hit what should have been a no-ball straight into the air and was caught. Bitchie Raithwaite (18) and Tom Bishop (18) played good supporting roles as Dave Maynard began to open up with shots all round the wicket. After falling just one run short a few weeks ago in the league, Dave was not going to fail this time and brought up a fine hundred with a drive through the covers. After eventually being dismissed for 114 (a personal best) Denham’s innings ended on a formidable 231.
A marvellous tea was then consumed thanks to the hard work of Debbie Moffatt and Denham took to the field feeling slight the worse for wear.
The Oil Mens’ reply began slowly, with Bishop, Kirby, Rees and Firminger all bowling tidily for Denham. However Joe O’Hara and some other bloke took control with some hard hitting batting. They were dropped 3 times between them (none of them easy) and punished 3 particularly poor overs which put them into a commanding position.
Both made undefeated 50s as O’Hara Oils passed their required target with a handful of overs remaining. So after two years of this fixture, it stands at one a piece. Denham will be more wary next year and give the Oilers the thrashing they deserve!
