No Surrender!

July 4th/5th 2003

Denham held out for a draw in its League games on Saturday and returned to winning ways on Sunday.

1st XI v Winchmore Hill

Winchmore Hill posted a formidable 277 for 6 off 50 overs, although Phil Dickson (4/21 ) bowled with the heart of a lion.

Denham were never in the hunt, but Ambrose Treacy contributed a fine unbeaten 65 as they reached 161 for 6.

Cookham Dean got 15 points in their draw with Great Kingshill, so Denham are back in sole control of the bottom spot.

2nd XI v Winchmore Hill 2nd XI

League leaders Winchmore Hill 2nds were dismissed for 230 in the 50th over (after recovering from 120/8). Andy Leach (4/54) was the chief destroyer, in partnership with Phil Ashworth.

The Denham innings misfired badly and they were glad to hold out for the draw at 148/9.

As Little Kingshill were trounced again, Denham retained 8th spot, 25 points above the former.

Sunday XI v West Wycombe

Denham knocked up a competitive186 in their 40 overs, with Stuart Payne showing his prowess in a number of ways (striking a boundary as he fell to the the deck just missing his stumps, and remembering to jug-evade at 47), with good support coming from from batting machine Paul Hazell.

Jack Grover was in tremendous form with the ball, finishing with the lion's share of the wickets as West Wycombe went down over 40 runs short. Honourable mentions also for young Gerald O'Hara, who bowled and fielded very well, and for James Nicholas's bowling.

'A great all-round team effort', said skipper Brathwaite.
