Ist XI: Cookham Dean Dispatched

Cookham Green restaurant

Dave Maynard's Report

On a glorious sunny day Denham won the toss on a plum batting track and elected to bat with Usman Khan 22 and Mark Dalton 19 putting on 44 for the 1st wicket before both openers were bowled.

In came James Nicholas and the in-form Russell Bowry to take the score to 96 before Nicholas was bowled for 14 and Russell Bowry was unlucky to bowled of his pads for an excellent 38 showing great range of shots.

So Denham were now 96-4 and the Cookham Dean putting the pressure on and Denham responded in great fashion in producing the partnership of the match of 152 with Bobby Dix scoring an excellent 85 not out and he was well supported by Dave Maynard, 60, with both players displaying some excellent shots.

When Maynard fell for 60 it was left to big hitter Joe O’Hara to score a quick 22 not out and Denham declared on 280-5 off 51 overs.

Denham got off to excellent start in taking 4 quick wickets with Bowry taking 2 and Faisal Mahmood 1. Then Cookham Dean fought back with a partnership of 130, with both players going extremely well. It looked like Denham could lose the game but Mahmood had other ideas and removed T.Bibby for an excellent 57.

Then James Nicholas decided to bring himself into the attack and removed the skipper C.Lambden for 57. Now on the roll, he removed the remaining 4 batsmen, bowling out Cookham Dean for 181 and obtaining the excellent figures of 5-18.

Joint Men of the Match Bobby Dix for his 85 not out and James Nicholas form his 5-18 (maybe he should bowl himself more).

Points: Denham 30, Cookham Dean 6.

- But Denham are still only 20 ahead of Winchmore Hill as thealso y scored a 30-pointer against Hurley, as did Great Kingshill, the team in third spot.

Fielding during that Amersham innings was like getting your teeth pulled

Awaiting Skipper Payne's Report

Denham were put in to bat and scored a very commendable 263/5 off 48 overs, with Bobby Rai knocking up 90 and Jeff Simpson 86.

We just could not hold back the Amersham Hill lads (especially Rehmann, 94 not out) and they scooted to victory in under 42 overs, for the loss of 7 wickets. Only Phil Asworth (3/11) emerged with credit on the bowling side.

Points: Amersham Hill 20, Denham 8.
