Denham v Winchmore Hill and Wargrave,
Sunday Side v
July 14th/15th 2007
|
Ist XI v Winchmore Hill: Massey vs Khan A superb 118 from Alan Massey and a gritty 72 from M Hall allowed Winchmore Hill to reach 265/5 against Denham on Saturday. Earlier Denham’s bowlers Mahmood and Nicholas bowled tight opening spells to leave the home side scoring at around 3 an over for the first 30 overs. However Massey took the game to the visitors and brought up a fine hundred with some powerful hitting. Denham were never really up with the run rate but with the dangerous Khan still at the wicket they were always in with an outside chance. Some big sixes followed and 88 were needed from the last 8 overs before Khan eventually holed out off the bowling of Anderson for 118. Maynard batted bravely for 40 not out as Denham saw out the draw, finishing on 228/6. Points: 13 to Winchmore Hill, 7 to Denham 2nd
XI v Wargrave:
Skittled! Where were the Denham batsmen on Saturday? Denham were skittled for 115 by mid-table rivals Wargrave. (J Rimmer 4/30). The visitors used up only 28.3 overs reaching the target, for the loss of 3 wickets. They had expected a much tougher tussle. Points: Denham 2, Wargrave 20. Wargrave now leapfrogged Denham in the League, to reach 6th place. |
Sunday 15/07 v Thorpe Alan Coulson's Report
"RICHIE IS THE HERO" SAYS HARISH BHATT
Denham approached their match against Thorpe on Sunday with caution, deciding to field first. The Thorpe batsmen started brightly, but rode their luck against the opening bowling of Richie Braithwaite and Joe O'Hara, reaching a score of 89 for 2 after 20 overs. They seemed set for a "200 score" until the spinners wove a magic spell to shatter their innings for 131. The Phil Ashworth fan club made a rare appearance, claiming 3 wickets, as did James Nicholas, and Bobby Rai weighed in with 2. Denham sensed a victory but were never on top of the bowling with their top five batsmen dismissed for only 80 runs. It was time for Richie to take charge and guide the team home with an entertaining 34 not out. Denham reached their target having lost 7 wickets in the thirty second over. Sir Stuart Payne lost heavily having bet against a Denham win at 80 for 5. Shame on you, Sir Stuart! Beware Harish, with all of these spinners in form, your place is not guaranteed! |
