DENHAM C.C. FUNDRAISER RICHINGS PARK GOLF CLUB Friday 7th April 2006 |
|
The renovation of our square at a cost so far of £3000, and the purchase of new sightscreens for a further £2600 has wiped out all reserves built up last year. In fact we still need to find £1300 for the second sightscreen to be paid for in April 07. We also decided this year to donate some of the proceeds to our Youth Club. Running another annual Golf Fundraiser was more essential than ever to keep our heads above water. The weather was a little better than last year, apart from a heavy downpour mid-afternoon which clearly affected the chairman's team's performance, 48 points out but only 34 back. The Chairman's Challenge Cup was presented to Bradley Dawes who scored 42 points off 18 h'cap. The runner up was Norman Smith with 40 points off 10. Terrific individual performances. Unsurprisingly both gentlemen featured in the Team Prizes, the 1st team being Mssrs Fleetwood, Butler, Holden and B. Dawes with 96 points & the runners up were Mssrs Grant, McCann, Hill and N. Smith with 94 points. Nearest the pins were won by Mssrs Bayes, Schembri, Wright & Hall, & longest drives by A.Wright and B. Dawes. As Alan Wright has won longest drive 1 - 18 h'cap two years in a row we may ask him to play the shot left handed next year (or one handed, or standing on one leg?)(or all of the above??) The chairman would like to thank Alan Wright for suggesting the venue, Mr Coles, his staff and Richings Park G.C. members for their hospitality. Special thanks go to those who obtained the golf vouchers for the raffle and auctions and those who were brave and generous enough to be involved in the bidding. Thanks go also to various friends who supplied prizes or sponsored trophies, and the following organisations (in alphabetical order) for their donations: The Buckinghamshire
Golf Club As a result of the generosity of the participants and the aforementioned, and apart from the enjoyment of the day, the total funds raised for Denham Cricket Club and Denham Senior Youth Group were £1254. The money will nearly pay for one sightscreen, and help subsidise a Youth Group excursion. I am already planning next year's event to raise the money for the second sightscreen. In the meantime, good luck to our cricketers and the young people of Denham! Bill Nicholas, Chairman Denham C.C. 14th April 2006. |
