DENHAM C.C. FUNDRAISER AT OAKLAND PARK GOLF CLUB

THE WEATHER WAS KINDER THAN FORECAST, COLD & WINDY BUT AT LEAST WE DIDN'T GET THE EXPECTED SOAKING.

Once again I have to thank all the management and staff at Oakland Park for their slick handling of the event and their customarily excellent bar service and catering. If you need help organising a Society event this is the place to come. Thanks to Frank Grant for taking photographs and to Chris Ambler and the ladies for organising the raffle.

The course was in better condition than ever, and as usual some players excelled despite the breeze. Particular thanks go to those who stepped in at very short notice to take the place of those sidelined by injury etc. One such was Barry Marsh who went on to win the Cup with 41 points off 24 h'cap, just pipping Garry Grant, who also scored 41 off 11 h'cap, on countback. So it now seems that 41 is the magic number, Sarah Roake having won with 41 points last year.

The Team Competition was very close once again. Last year three teams scored 90 points, separated only on countback. This year Garry Grant was partially compensated for his, so narrowly beaten, individual second place by his team taking first prize with 92. Oakland Park (very) regulars Clem Surrey, Dennis Ede, Joe Jaquest & super-sub Max Gattrell were 2nd with 91 points, and Ken Knowlson's team were 3rd with 89.

I should like to thank as usual all those who obtained or donated prizes for the golf, raffle and auction, and the following organisations (in alphabetical order) for their donations:

As a result of the generosity of the participants and the aforementioned , the total funds raised were £830. The money will go towards the cost of renovating our cricket practice area (in hand) and a large bagful of equipment for the use of local youngsters. As ever, good luck to our cricketers and the young people of Denham!
