"Denham stumble, until Killer and Ken make crumble" In their home Cricketers Darts league match on Friday against Uxbridge, Denham got off to their worse possible start when leading pair Tom and Keith crashed out 0-3. They scored well, averaging 18.70 and 22.12 respectively, but their opposing pair hung on and twice delivered killer 100+ finishes to win well. Second up, Dan and Russell were reunited, with the former playing at his best 'funky chicken' averaging 25.37 while ably supported by Russell at 18.83. They won their match 2-1 with Dan's 116 finish one of the highlights. Ray and Tony were confidently expected to win their game but with Tony below par and neither of them able to get a double to finish, they crashed out 0-3, Ray's 140 being the only bright part of their game. This left Uxbridge requiring only one leg to win the game with Pete and Ken up next. The music was changed after Ken complained that he thought U2 was an American spy plane. Not confident but determined, they battled through to win 3-0, putting Denham back in with a chance. Ken's 140 and 2 finishes took the wind out the opposition's sails and they were chuffed when 'Killer' Pete secured the final leg. The first fours saw Dan maintain his fine form, well supported by Tom, Keith and Russell, another leg won... overall score now 6-7. The second fours however was a disappointment. Denham unable to finish, with darts bouncing off the wire. This meant the game was lost but pride and the need for the final point from the Eights gave the impetus to the lads who, led by Tom and Ray, got over the line. O it was a 7-8 defeat on the night, but with 3 regular players missing it showed what a good spirit (or lager) the squad has. Their next match is the first round of the K.O. Cup at North Harrow on Wdnesday October 26th when they hope to be at full strength. |
