Denham v Eastcote After the Lord Mayor's Show
Denham suffered their heaviest defeat in at least two and a half years last night at the hands of last year's wooden-spoonists Eastcote. Although usually found towards the wrong end of the table, Eastcote have a habit of causing Denham problems and this was no exception. All members of the Denham side consistently failed to put away chances at doubles and Eastcote were ruthless with their finishing. Tom and James lost 2-1 in the first pair, gifting Eastcote the opening leg after squandering a massive lead. Keith and Ray were well below par and didn't even get a shot at a double while going down 3-0. Ken was unable to produce last week's heroics as he and Russell lost 2-1. In the final pair Dan and Phil's usually strong partnership didn't gel and they lost 2-1 in a match they really should have won comfortably. Denham saved some pride winning one of the fours, and the eights meaning the final score was 10-5 to Eastcote. As the averages show, the scoring was not the problem. In fact they were similar to those attained in the recent victory over champions Bessborough. It was the poor finishing that cost them. So in the words of two-time BDO World finalist Bobby George: 'Scores for show, doubles for dough.' |
