Cricketers Darts League: James Nicholas's report: 23/2/05

Denham CC Darts Team Denham's two most recent games were against Ickenham and Uxbridge. Against Ickenham, Denham fielded a strong side which included Keith Ackerman making his first appearence since the infamous North Harrow game. James Nicholas and Tom Reynolds got Denham off to a steady start in the pairs with a 2-1 victory. They really should have won 3-0, but an inability to hit the double in the 1st leg gave Ickenham the early lead. There were steady performances from the other 3 pairs, although another leg was dropped to an 'all female' partnership which was disappointing. With the score at 8-4 to Denham after the pairs, they felt they should have been further ahead. However, Denham rallied to win both the 4's and the 8's to win 11-4. On Tuesday Denham travelled to play a strong Uxbridge side with a weakened team with Andy 'The Invalid' Hayward being forced into making his first full appearence of the season. After James and Tom lost the first pairs match 2-1, winning 6 legs on the night became the target. However Dan Sutton and Russell 'The Tank Top' Bowry put in a fantastic performance to win 3-0 and revenge the opposite scoreline from the start of the season. A special mention should go to a very 'cosy' 103 finish from Russell. A 3-0 loss in the next pairs game brought Uxbridge back into the lead at 5-4, but Denham fought back brilliantly through Ray Painter and Tony Matthews who both finished excellently to win 3-0, putting Denham 7-5 up. Well done to Ray who has now moved top of the league for the most doubles this season. A strong top 4 all played well to win comfortably and the bottom 4 were unlucky to lose their leg. Everyone then threw superbly to win an exciting 8s with Tom taking out double 1 to make it 9-6 to Denham on the night and take Denham to the top of the league. Come on Denham!!! |
