Magic Without Mirrors Denham perform darts magic without mirrors. Stupefying, Humongous, Awesome. Just three of Russell's words to describe Denham darts performance at Hayes cricket club on February 9th. Russell was so ecstatic that he declared he would give his Granny the bottle of Southern Comfort that he won in the raffle – or at the very least, a sniff of the cork… Against a very strong Hayes team, this was probably the best performance that Denham have ever provided on the oche. There were high quality darts by both teams and super finishes, climaxing with James firing into the ‘Bull’ to complete the ‘Eights’. Denham came away with a 12-3 win, their best of the season, against one of their main rivals for the league title. Consistency was James ‘Skipper’ Nicholas’s name in the first game, he and Tom ‘Lager’ Reynolds, against expectations, showed gonads in battling to a 3-0 win in their pairs. Ray ‘Glossy’ Painter and his partner Pete ‘Killer’ Schembri maintained the form coming out 2-1 winners, Ray’s high scoring being the feature of the game. ‘The Chicken’ (Formerly known as ‘Broken Flight’) Dan Sutton with Russell ‘Jane’ Bowry displayed a positive attitude, again winning 2-1. Keith ‘Cool’ Ackerman, partnering Tony ‘Stanley’ Matthews, was suffering the aftermath of the Allbungedup virus (Common cold) but they didn’t need his tissues to fight back after losing the first leg to run out 2-1 winners. The ‘Fours’ and Eights’ continued in Denham’s favour with Ray and James again leading the way with their high scoring. Ray, who hit four 140’s on the night was judged as Denham’s best player. This win keeps the lads in with a good chance of retaining the league championship. But it's tight at the top: Denham are just 6 and 7 points respectively above Hayes and North Harrow. It could go right to the wire. |
