Cricketers Darts League:

James Nicholas 's Report: 23/2/07

Cricket on a Dartboard: February 2007

Like an Eastenders Plot - Totally Unbelievable

Denham triumphed recently in the annual Cricket on a Dartboard competition held at Ickenham.

The team consisting of James Nicholas, Danny Sutton and Joe O'Hara won a close final against a strong Bessborough side.

However it was the initial group stages which held the most nerve-racking moments for the boys.

After disappointingly losing their first group game to Ickenham it looked like an early exit was on the cards. However two good wins followed against Bessborough B and Uxbridge, which left Denham with a very outside chance of qualification for the final.

Uxbridge who had lost both their games had to beat the undefeated Ickenham for Denham to tie at the top of the group. And this is exactly what happened.

The Denham team were all ready to go home and had as good as given up any hopes of progressing, when they were suddenly involved in a 'nearest the bull' decider against Ickenham to make it into the final.

It was to be James versus the in-form Tom from Ickenham. One dart each. Nearest the bullseye would win. James won the toss and elected to throw second. Both players threw and finished within identical distance of the bullseye.

It was decided that both would throw again. This time Tom's dart unluckily bounced out of the board. In a show of good sportsmanship it was decided to let him have another go and he proceeded to hit the out part of the bull. James responded to also hit the outer bull. The players had to throw again!

Nothing could separate them! However this time James threw just inside his opponent's dart to give Denham victory and a place in the final, which they duly won thanks to Danny taking the final 2 wickets.

All 3 players threw well at the right times to get a well earned victory.
