Cricketers Darts League: A Cup Too Far Ken Knowlson's Report: 22/4/06 |

No Cup And League Double The dream of a consecutive League and Cup double for the Denham boys was thwarted by an Uxbridge team who played at the top of their form and deservedly won 8-7. The sparkle was lacking in Denham's game at the Hayes venue. James and Tom who have been so consistent during the season were slightly fortunate to only lose 2-1, but nevertheless could have stolen it after retrieving a large deficit in the second leg. Their opponents kept their nerve which set the tone for the evening. Dan and Russell whilst not at their best brought the scores level with a 2-1 win, the highlight being Russell's 99 finish. Ray's partner, Pete 'Killer' Schembri suffered nerves and they despite Ray's efforts they too went down 1-2. There were hopes that the final pairing of 'Mr Consistency' Keith and Steve could get Denham back into the match but it was not to be, sustaining another 1-2 defeat. This left Denham needing both final Fours and Eights to win the match. Uxbridge played brilliantly in the first Fours and sealed their victory with a victory jig. The dead rubbers were played and won by Denham which provided scant consolation. The darts committee meeting afterwards held 'Super Skip' James responsible for the loss, as he got the board changed before the evening's entertainment. His punishment will be to buy the beers at the presentation night being held at Uxbridge C.C. next week. It's been a very successful season with a keen healthy team spirit throughout the squad. There are doubts about the continuation of the Cricketers Darts League due to lack of teams. If it does regrettably fold, then Denham C.C. hope to continue waving the flag in another local Club league. |
