Holyport 1st XI v Denham XI

August 23rd 2008

Report from The Commentator

"Good Enough for a Panama Cigar"

Denham travelled over to Holyport for the relegation clash which was being billed as a NO LOSE GAME for either side. Holyport won the toss and elected to bat on what I would describe as drying green wicket but because of the points situation for Holyport they needed to get 30 points.

The opening bowling spell of Mahmood and Shiakh was a pleasure to watch with both bowlers sending down Jaffa after Jaffa with Mahmood producing a devastating spell of bowling in claiming 7 wickets for 38 runs with all his victims being bowled except for one which was caught impressively by Singh at gully (Hooray a Fielder who can catch) and he was backed up brilliantly by Jamil Shiakh who was unplayable with off cutting deliveries and he took 3-19 with Ambrose Treacy taking a Flintoff-style catch at slip for one of his victims.

So Holyport were bowled out for 58.

Denham, sensing victory, began their reply with the opening partnership of Singh and Mehta, with Singh again looking impressive with his elegant off drives before being caught at slip (There appears to be a sense of Deja Vu here).

In came Nicholas who was out quickly for 3, being caught at slip. The score now being 20-2, the Invincible Usman Khan strode to the wicket and played himself in for a couple of overs and decided to get the game over with a succession of boundaries which brought the score up to 50 before he was bowled by Hayes for 33 and Mehta 5 was dismissed shortly afterwards with the score now on 57.

Surely Denham couldn’t have one of there famous collapses and lose the game here? It was left for Maynard to hit a boundary and give Denham a desperately-needed 30 points which edges them closer to the safety.

The Commentator was very chuffed with this performance and decided to unwind with one of his favourite panama cigars after the game.

Taplow 2 pts Denham 30 pts

Next week Denham are off to Binfield, Englefield are home to Wraysbury and Holyport travel to reigning champions Taplow with 2 games remaining, points:

8. Denham 163 pts

9. Englefield 129 pts

10. Holyport 121 pts

The fat lady is not yet on her rostrum as she is still clearing her throat, so Denham need to refocus again for the next battle at fourth-place Binfield. This week's Hall of Shame for dropped catches: only 1 victim.

Denham 2nd XI v White Waltham 2nd XI

August 23rd 2008

We have scanty and unreliable information here and perhaps The Linesman will give us one of his famous reports

The official record appears to say that White Waltham won the toss and batted, and were restricted to only 108/7 in their 52 overs, and then Denham collapsed to be all out for 103 in 41.1 overs.

Yet it could be that Denham were all out for 103 and then the visitors overhauled them with 3 wickets to spare.

We must be told!

Denham 4 pts White Waltham 26 pts

Denham languish in seventh place.

Next game: home to Hurley.
