Ist XI: Marching On... Summary Denham were inserted on a wet wicket and with some determined batting managed to knock up 218-8 off 52 overs (Dave Maynard 51, Bobby.Rai 48 and Russell Bowry 41) Once Faisal and Usman started to make inroads into the White Waltham innings, there were was only ever going to be one result, but spectators were reminded of England's failure to take that last wicket, as numbers 10 and 11 looked comfortable defending and Denham semed to have run out of puff. Then Jamil Shaikh returned to do the business, bowling hard and straight. The ball spooned into the air towards Flash. He pouched the catch, everyone ran forward cheering and Denham had a full 30-point victory(Faisal Mahmood 4-42 and Usman Khan 3-24). Match Result: Denham won by 83 runs Points: Denham 30 pts White Waltham 6pts. Denham are now 34 points ahead of Littlewick Green (who despatched Little Kingshill today with as miuch ease as Denham won their game), but the latter have a game in hand. Hmm, the permutations are endless...League Tables, 21/8/05 Now, with one match to go, who is going to win the Bowling (Shaikh, Khan and Mahmood all 21 wickets, Dickson 19)? And it's Khan (531) versus Bowry (510) for most runs scored. 1st Team Averages 21/08/05 1st XI Scorecard DENHAM INNINGS C.TOBIN CT. BROOKER B. A.WEST 08 U.KHAN CT. ELLIOTT B. BROOKER 25 R.BOWRY CT. 2nd XI : In The War Grave Cemetary Summary
We wanted big points and so were happy to take the risk of batting first on a so-so pitch, but wickets crumbled and we were all out for just 146. Wargrave got them for the loss of just two wkts. Aiee, the mighty are fallen.
Sunday XI 21st August: Too-casual Denham lose to the Casuals By our Chinese correspondent (Alan Coulson) Skipper James Nicholas won the toss and chose to bat against Virgin Casuals. Denham started positively, scoring at a good rate with Paul Hazell (59) and Jamil Shaikh (76) in form. Stuart Payne (19) and Anthony Walsh (34) kept the momentum going, but from 205 for 3, the last few overs yielded nearly as many wickets as runs, as Denham finished on 228 for 9, with debut player and groundsman Alan Wright left 4 not out. Virgin Casuals took the field in the casual attire of past tour shirts, sporting numbers and nicknames. It wasn't quite "Smokie and the Bandit", but "Smorkie" and "The Fridge" were soon showing their intent in reaching the Denham total. There was a serious setback to their ambitions when "Smorkie" was bowled by a perfect off cutter from Richie Braithwaite. However more strong hitting followed and Denham's bowling and fielding began to deteriorate. Casuals reached their target with 14 balls and five wickets to spare. Incredibly, of the five wickets to fall Denham managed to catch three of them! Champagne Moment : Anthony "pants" Walsh bowling the last over and getting a wicket, with 0.4 overs 1 for 2.
