1st XI and 2nd XIs vs Braywood, Sunday vs Harrow Wayfarers
August 11th/12th 2007
|
Collapse of Stout Party Denham 1s batting let them down again against Braywood. Denham's bowlers had earlier done an excellent job bowling out the home side for 180 (B Rai 3/44, G Garkhal 3/49). Apart from the mighty Faisal - whose unbeaten 80 represented 72% of the runs - Denham just folded up to 111 all out. Down they went to eighth in the League, within range of Cookham Dean, but probably safely ahead of Coleshill to avoid relegation. 1st XI averages | League Tables 2s Rolled Over Again Denham 2s struggled to 183/7 in their full 52 overs against Braywood (B Hussain 4/58). The visitors waltzed to victory in 40 overs, losing just one wicket in the process (C Webber 86*, W Teasdale 61) Points 30 to Braywood, just 4 to Denham, who remain eighth. |
SUNDAY SIDE RECORD FIFTH SUCCESSIVE WIN Denham opted to bat first against Harrow Wayfarers on a wicket where playing shots could be difficult. It was a case of relying on at least two of the strong batting line up to dig in and build an innings. This week it was the turn of opener Mark Dalton (44) and Sir I.V.A. Braithwaite Richards (54) to provide the backbone in a fourth wicket stand of 85. (What, Richie Brathwaite, jug evading champion of Headstone Lane 15 years in succession, ACTUALLY MISCALCULATED! - Ed) Later in the innings, an eighth wicket partnership of 42 between Dr. Tang (25) and Hemen Mehta (19) helped Denham to reach a total of 198. The team was confident with the score of 198, but it would need Denham to bowl and field well to win. The opening spell from Faisal Mahmood and Joe O'Hara was exactly what Denham needed. Both bowled aggressively with Faisal taking 1 for 14 from 7 overs and Joe taking 3 for 27 from 8 overs. Harrow Wayfarers were under pressure after this start and good subsequent bowling finished them, with Dave Tang taking 2 for 22 from 7 overs, Hemen Mehta 3 for 36 from 5 overs and Harish Bhatt 1 for 8 from 2 overs. Six catches were also taken, especially good ones by Bobby Rai, Akhil Sabherwal and Faisal. Denham ended comfortable winners by 87 runs. |
