James Nicholas's Report

In a reduced game of 30 overs a side Denham batted first. Runs came quickly immediately due to 3 of the boundaries being extremely short. However virtually all of these runs were coming from the bat of James Nicholas.

Although there were some good partnerships, only Bobby Rai (14) made any other meaningful contribution. James continued on and carried his bat to finish 145 not out in Denham’s formidable total of 216/6.

Sonning’s reply began very well. Martyn took full advantage of the short boundaries and made a quick-fire 58 before treading on his stumps, much to the delight of the bowler Harish (3-19). Debutante Tom Bishop (3-21) then took a hat-trick to leave Sonning reeling and they never recovered. Simmons made a spirited 58 but the Sonning innings eventually closed on 179/8 giving Denham the win by 37 runs.
