Denham v Jordans Taverners, April 24rd 2005

Grafted And Crafted
Denham lost the toss and were put in to bat on a difficult pitch, but James Nicholas and Bobby Rai patiently grafted for their runs and began to score fluently. The pair put on 115 before James was dismissed for an excellent 66.
Solid contributions from Chris Ambler (23) and Pete Schembri (17) helped Denham to the formidable total of 180/4 off their 40 overs.
The visitors were never in the hunt. Fine bowling by Phil Dickson (2/15 off his 8 pvers) and Gerald O'Hara (also 2 wickets) reduced them to 22/4. Thereafter it was the craft of spinners Gurpreet Gurkhal (3/23) and Phil Ashworth (2/15) which finished the job for Denham, as the visitors were dismissed for 103.
Captain Alan Coulson was particularly impressed with the professional way his team set about their business: it was a fine curtain-opener to the season.
