Denham v Flackwell Heath

April 15th 2007

Denham take some flack

By Alan Coulson

The opening sunday match against Flackwell Heath fizzled out into a disappointing loss after some excellent batting had given Denham hope.

Denham began brightly by accepting the first three catches offered. Phil Dickson followed by Joe O'Hara at the Bilton end bowled well with Phil taking 3 for 18 and Joe 2 for 15.

However an early missed run out chance proved costly as Higgins top-scored with 73. Having reduced their opponents to 122 for 6, poor Denham fielding, a few "average" overs and an effective seventh wicket stand allowed Flackwell Heath to post a total of 216 for 7.

Denham's reply was slow and unpromising, only 19 for 3 from 12 overs. Hopes were raised with a century stand in quick time by Joe O'Hara and James Nicholas, who both scored 65. However the tail folded fairly rapidly in the fading light to finish on 178, 38 runs short.
